Hi! My name is Katherine Ducey and I am a fourth year studying Communication with a Minor in Marketing and a focus in Public Relations at the University of Cincinnati. I love dogs, talking, music, politics, reading, and making lists. I am from the suburbs of Cincinnati. I have two siblings and a perfect dog named Rory. I love UC and am so glad and proud to be a student of this University.
I was torn about being so close to home, but getting involved at UC, I find myself focusing less on the close proximity to my family. I play Club Water Polo which has been an experience in itself. I played in high school and am so glad with my decision to play in college. My teammates have become some of my closest friends and incredible roommates! I joined a sorority my 1st year and despite debating dropping, I am so happy with my decision to stay in it. I have had the opportunity to meet so many interesting people. I currently serve as the Policy and Standards Board Chair. One of my favorite parts is the different philanthropy opportunities. I am incredibly passionate about literacy and the philanthropy lines up with this! I am the Secretary for UC College Democrats which gives me a place to discuss politics. I believe in hearing all sides of every issue, but I do enjoy speaking with likeminded people occasionally. I have continued volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul. I first began volunteering with them in high school and they are definitely one of my favorite organizations.I discovered my passion for social justice and desire to learn more about my community. This organization has helped me combine these two passions with my passion for education.
I am beginning to develop a better understanding of who I am and what I believe in. I kind of always knew but, I now have more concrete answers and explanations. I am a "Yes" person and sometimes it gets me in trouble, but more often it allows me to explore different opportunities and grow as a person. I believe in education and the power of education. I believe that everyone has the ability to be a leader and be a catalyst for change. So to no surprise, my strengths are Belief, Communication, Connectedness, Empathy, and Developer.
After college, I hope to work in Public Relations and then get my Masters in either Education or Communication!
My ultimate dream job will forever continue to be a dog walker, but for now I hope to be an Academic Advisor.
Through my time at UC, I am looking forward to learning more about myself and my passions. I am also looking forward to the opportunities life throws my way!
