For my mini self-designed experience, my group and I chose community engagement as our UHP pillar. As a result, we chose to go to Green Dog Cafe which is a sustainability cafe. I came in with some preconceived notions that the food would be very healthy and bland. However, the food was vibrant and there was something there for everyone to enjoy. While I was there, I learned the importance of eating local and supporting my community. People often think that the only way to make a difference is to go far away to another continent however, more often than not, you can make a huge difference in your own community. My take away from this experience is that I need to search in my community for ways to help as opposed to looking far way for now.
